“How did Covid-19 effect my library life? Let me count the ways…”

“I have been in Largo over 30 years and the Largo Library has been a big part of my life here. I started at the small library and I was so excited when they built the beautiful new building. I go to the library about every two weeks to get books. During this shut down I have borrowed books from friends and neighbors to get through this period of staying in place.

I have also attended events at the library, get my taxes done there, and consider the library to be a great asset of Largo. I have many friends who also use the library and this time of closure has been difficult on all of us. I will be so glad when it is opened again. I need my books!” - Sherry S.

“As a Friend of the Library member, I have the joy of volunteering in the book store each Tuesday afternoon. The company of the other volunteers and the many customers make it a day to look forward to. As a voracious reader myself it is pure pleasure seeing what people choose to buy or helping them find a book they are looking for. The customers all seem to be getting the same kind of pleasure finding and buying our used books that have been donated.

Each year I look forward to the “Largo Turns A Page” and the thrill of meeting the author of the chosen book. This year the book chosen was “Z” by Therese Anne Fowler about Zelda Fitzgerald. I was so looking forward to finding out why she chose her for this novel. Due to the virus, it was canceled.

My book club — the No Name Book Club — meets monthly at the library, so the closing of the library meant no meetings there.

Lastly but not least, having the library closed meant non more pouring over books on the shelves and being able to ask the staff for their assistance when needed.

Largo Library is an exceptional place and one that fulfills many resources for us all.” - Carolyn R.

“Why do I donate…”

“I have today made a donation on your website. This is to be in memory of my aunt and uncle. They were almost lifelong Largo residents and enjoyed Largo’s many amenities as much as I do.

During my childhood, my aunt was an inspiration to me to become an avid reader. Even while in a nursing home in Spartanburg, SC, a volunteer from the local library would bring her requested books, and she was a reader to the end.

I know she, especially, would approve of supporting any and all libraries!” - Mary Kay E.

“Well I'm from Clearwater, and my family moved to Tennessee when I was 10 years old. I still have family down there, including my grandparents, and I still visit the area occasionally (though I haven't been down since COVID).

My grandpa frequented the library on an almost daily basis (or so I'm told), and he passed away a few days before Christmas. I received a check from them the same day, as they always send me money for Xmas. It felt strange to cash it and spend it on myself, so I thought I would do something with it that he would have liked.

I found the brick program on your website and thought that would be perfect, since the money would go to a place he loved and it would also be another way of memorializing him.” - Justin W.
